The Foyle Valley Railway - 18th September 1999 |
||
|
This trip to the Foyle Valley Railway was squeezed in off the back of the RPSI's Atlantic Coast Express, so time was limited. The trip from the Depot to Milltown Halt (the end of the line) in the coupled railcars (both the subject of award-wining restorations c5 years ago) took 10 mins to cover the c2 miles. The round trip took 35 mins altogether, which left little time for looking around the Depot/Museum of static County Donegal Railway (3') artefacts. |

Unidentified - Can you assist? Thanks to those who have - it's either No 4 - "Meenglas" or No 6 - "Columbkille" Both are 2-6-4T locos built in 1907 and preserved at the FVR...* |

word - it's
No 4 - "Meenglas",
thanks to this info-laden explanation from J.Begley: "Hi, Just found your site which I found very interesting. You asked for the identity of the tank engine. There are two at The FVR. Meenglas is the one outside - it was one of two engines left exposed to the elements at Strabane for nearly thirty years after the railway closed. The other, Drumboe, is currently at the old station house in Donegal, base for the County Donegal Railway Restoration Society. The Web site is http://cdrrs.future.easyspace.com/ Columbkille, the other engine at the FVR is in better shape and is inside the museum. It fared better after closure, being stored in the depot in Stranorlar until that was levelled in 1974. It was then taken into the care of the NMIRS and was largely kept under cover since. Hope this helps" |

Apparently by publishing pictures (even on the Internet) they become copyright. Well, you are welcome to copy them for any non-commercial purpose (but the quality is poor to speed downloading - and the originals weren't great to start with!), but if you do use them, please attribute them to Adrian Harte.
