WATERFORD & SUIR VALLEY RAILWAY |
|
|
|
The Waterford and Suir Valley Railway Company's aim is to restore 5 miles of
narrow (3 ft) gauge track alongside the River Suir between Waterford
(Bilberry - on the outskirts of the town ) and Kilmeadan on the route of the former
standard (5ft 3in) gauge line that ran to Mallow via Dungarvan & Fermoy.
As can be seen from the photograph, work is progressing well. In
addition an adjacent public walkway will be provided. |
|
The company anticipate having a mile of track laid from Kilmeadan ready to carry
passengers by the start of the tourist season in March 2001. To this end
they have already purchased the Diesel locomotive (a 4-wheel Simplex) and
coaches (built by Alan Keefe Ltd) seen in
the photograph, capable of seating 100 passengers. A steam
locomotive is currently under construction in England. |

| As
far as I was aware at the time of creating this page (Nov. 2000)
the W&SVR
didn't have a website, but I have no connection with the
organisation. The following information was provided by a
committee member of the W&SVR as a contact for further

As of July 2002 the W&SVR launched their own website, www.wsvrailway.ie so this page will not be updated. |
